Blackout curtains are a type of window treatment that blocks out light completely. They are typically used in bedrooms or media rooms to create a dark environment for sleeping or watching movies. In Dubai, you can find blackout curtains at many home décor and furniture stores. You can also find them online on e-commerce platforms such as Souq.com or Noon.com or on other online retailers.
Making your own blackout curtains is a cost-effective and easy way to add privacy and block light from entering a room. Here’s a simple process to make your own blackout curtains:
Measure the width and length of your window and add an additional 4 inches to the width and 12 inches to the length to allow for hemming and a little extra fabric.
Purchase a heavy, opaque fabric that will block light. Some options include velvet, twill, or canvas.
Cut the fabric to the desired size, making sure to iron out any wrinkles or creases.
Fold the top of the fabric over 1 inch and iron it to create a crease. Then fold it over again to create a 2-inch hem and iron it in place. Repeat this step on the bottom of the fabric.
Fold both sides of the fabric in 1 inch and iron to create a crease. Then fold again to create a 2-inch hem and iron it in place.
Sew along the top and bottom hems, as well as both side hems to secure them in place.
Purchase curtain rod rings and a rod that will fit the width of your window. Slip the rings onto the rod and then slip the rod through the top hem of the curtain.
Mount the rod above the window and hang your new blackout curtains!
It’s worth mentioning that, this process is a basic one, you can add different steps or techniques if you want to improve the final outcome.
